Adult basic education

Programs included as part of adult basic education are meant for students aged over 16 who are interested in improving their basic skills. These can cover speaking, writing, reading, listening, and performing mathematical calculations. Adult basic education programs entail learning opportunities for students who have not enrolled in school in their young years.

Acquiring basic literacy, higher secondary education, and training are no longer difficult to achieve. With free adult basic education, everybody can realize their goals and turn their dreams into reality!

How are adults trained?

As adults, each of us develops our own ways to learn and evolve. Thus, a one-size-fits-all approach might not be the best choice when it comes to adult basic education programs. Each individual will be asked to create a personal education plan (PEP) that perfectly aligns with their specific goals.

The course work allotted will vary from person to person based on their respective goals. Study methods like independent, one-on-one and small group learning are encouraged.

What does the typical coursework look like?

Typical coursework can include the following:

  1. Preparation for attaining the high school diploma or general education development (GED).
  2. Classes will be conducted via both online and offline mediums.
  3. Students will be duly trained to ace five GED tests that include the following subjects:
  4. Mathematics
  5. Reading
  6. Writing
  7. Science
  8. Social studies

  • Students will also be tutored in basic computer literacy.
  • Learners whose primary language of instruction is not English can choose it as their second language. This way, they can get their hands on basic language education and obtain English literacy.
  • If the individual is already employed by a specific company, industry, or business, adult basic education programs include a unique course titled ‘Workforce education’. It is aimed at equipping such adults with fundamental academic and literacy skills.
  • Along with helping them develop their rudimentary skillset, adult basic education also enables learners to build their job-seeking skills. Learners will be able to understand and grasp skills like resume development, soft skills, interviewing skills, and any other occupational-specific skills like the Pathways to Prosperity.
  • Besides, they will also be prepared to obtain US citizenship.
